The first session of ‘New Voices: Short Films from New Caledonia 2023’ includes the films ‘Kanak’, ‘Detective Pierrot’, and the music video ‘Space Lovers’. The session will be introduced by Yves Lafoy, Official Representative of New Caledonia to Australia and Counsellor for New Caledonia, Embassy of France.

Siwane, a young Kanak (native of the Pacific Island of New Caledonia) has travelled to France with a group of traditional dancers for a cultural exchange. Backstage in a Parisian theatre, moments before the beginning of the show and dressed in his traditional fern garbs, the young man struggles to accept intrigued reactions to his culture.

Space Lovers 2023

Two starship pilots, Dr. Goodfellow and the Daughter of the Dragon engage in a deadly chase at the speed of light, then suddenly come face to face. In the exchange of their glances an irresistible amorous passion seizes them in an instant. War and hatred between peoples are finally giving way to love. They both flee to the edge of space, where they find a
planet with sublime landscapes in the image of their infinite love.

Pierrot Lenquette (Detective Pierrot) 2023

Detective Pierrot is a special investigator. Like every day, he goes to his nearby Café and orders an espresso in a large cup, cold milk in a small jug, a hard-boiled egg and some salt, to conscientiously go through his newspaper. What he’s going to read that morning will definitely upset the schedule for his day: “There is nickel in tap water! And more…".
