About
This screening of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead will be presented in 35mm.
Directed by Tom Stoppard, and based on his own play of the same name, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is an absurdist black comedy in which the eponymous protagonists, minor players in Shakespeare's Hamlet, become aware of their artificiality of their own existence. Gary Oldman and Tim Roth deliver hilarious lead performances in a film that takes place in the fringes of Shakespeare - while Hamlet and the royal family face torment, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern battle with the vagaries of life and the ludicrousness of their situation. Stoppard's film is a wonderful, deconstructionist look at those unfortunate creations who exist outside the centre stage of Shakespeare's plays.
