About

Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel brings the intensity of his directorial debut Snowtown to 11th Century Scotland in this unrelenting adaptation of Macbeth. As Macbeth attempts to fulfil the prophecy delivered to him by a trio of witches, both he and his wife slip further into guilt-induced madness. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard deliver commanding leading performances, capturing the tragedy and wrath at the heart of the roles. The film is an illustration of the power Shakespeare still wields in cinema, even when the action is not modernised to the present day.
