The Driver (Ryan Gosling) is a man of few words. Nicolas Winding Refn transforms James Sallis' 2012 crime novel into an arresting exercise in sound and vision. He was awarded Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival and the film received a 15-minute standing ovation, emphasising the impact of this ultra-violent neo-noir. Gosling gives a deceptively simple performance as the titular driver; his mannerisms and facial expressions haunt long after the credits roll.
