An important event took place last year when, despite being in its inaugural year and still building momentum, the QAGOMA Future Collective‘s then 28 young and engaged members came together to select the first project to receive their support.
Curators passionately championed exciting and distinct projects in spaces across the Gallery. It was not an easy decision but a polling process eventually revealed a clear leader. That choice was emerging Australian artist Abdul Abdullah’s series of provocative photographic prints entitled ‘Coming to terms’.

The Future Collective’s direct support enabled the Gallery to acquire five works from the ‘Coming to terms’ series, which currently feature in APT8. Members and guests met Abdullah in person during the Future Collective end-of-year celebration, giving attendees the opportunity to talk to the artist and learn about his bold and challenging practice.
The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT)
