Air is elusive, immaterial and invisible, animating our bodies and occupying the space beyond us. At this moment in time, we are more sensitive to the air we breathe than ever — alert to airborne threats and aware of our shared reliance on this vital element. The experience of COVID-19 has reinforced our interconnectedness as local and global communities, leading us — and many artists in ‘Air’ — to examine the world we live in and ask, ‘How can we better breathe together?’
Teacher Notes
The Teacher Notes explore the five chapters of the exhibition and discuss key artworks in relation to each theme. The notes also include curriculum links for both primary and secondary levels across the Australian Curriculum (Version 9.0) and Queensland Senior Visual Art syllabus.
Primary Resource
The primary resource includes discussion questions and classroom activities to support making and responding to artworks featured in 'Air'.
Secondary Resource
Find out more about selected artworks in ‘Air’ through the secondary resource. Experiment with making activities, discover related contemporary artists and consider the influences of twentieth-century artists through reverse chronology.
