About
'Seen + Heard' addresses crossovers between popular culture, music, sound and visual art through works from the Collection that directly incorporate sound as a component or indirectly refer to sound and music. The pioneering sculptural sound installation work of Korean artist Nam Jun Paik features alongside Fluxus multiples gifted by the late Veronese publisher Francesco Conz in 1995 and 1997, and vinyl records, multiples and pop culture ephemera gifted to the QAGOMA Research Library by artist Scott Redford.
Musical scores and performance and sound installations such as Candice Breitz's King (a portrait of Michael Jackson) 2005 complement an extensive display of records and covers explored as a 'canvas' for designers and artist. This variety of approaches to cover art from the 1950s to the present represented many consumers' most direct engagement with visual art and design.
