About
'Posed' brings together sculptures by contemporary Australian artist Linda Marrinon with selected bronzes from the Collection.
Marrinon is known for her figurative sculptures that connect to European sculpture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She sculpts in plaster, a material traditionally reserved for studies for bronze works. Her subjects are often humorous and imaginative, rather than mythological or memorial. Together these sculptures show the artists' familiarity with anatomy, gesture and posture in works spanning the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. Marrinon's contemporary figures converse with earlier works by Edgar Degas, Alfred Gilbert and Daphne Mayo while bringing a playful and speculative response to the genre of figurative sculpture.
