About
The Children's Art Centre presented an interactive artist project to coincide with 'Cai Guo Qiang: Falling Back to Earth', which invites children to engage with the artist's ideas and art works through hands-on and multimedia activities.
Young visitors are able to take part in Cai Guo-Qiang's interactive children's project by learning about and participating in the artists' exciting working methods to create their own exhibition. Children can make and display objects in miniature gallery spaces, create spectacular multimedia gunpowder drawings and explosion events and watch a short animated film about the art and adventures of Cai Guo-Qiang. The artist's own story, Let's Create an Exhibition with a Boy Named Cai, is also available as an illustrated story book published by the Children's Art Centre.
Activities For Children
Let's Create an Exhibition with a Boy named Cai animated film
Let's Create an Exhibition with a Boy Named Cai is Cai Guo-Qiang's own story inspired by the popular Chinese fairytale Peach Blossom Spring.
Follow Cai's journey around the world — to China, Japan, Germany, Australia and other places — and see the artworks he creates, all inspired by the people he meets and the amazing things he sees and learns along the way. Cai's story featured as an animation in the exhibition, and as a beautifully illustrated children's story book. Find out more
Hands-on-activity
Boats, animals and trees often appear in Cai Guo-Qiang's exhibitions. The artist uses these symbols as a way to connect people and places together, even those on opposite sides of the world.
Virtual gunpowder drawings and explosion events activity
Cai Guo-Qiang uses the surprising materials of gunpowder and fireworks to create drawings and spectacular displays.
Children were invited to create virtual drawings and explosion events through this touchscreen activity and display these in the Children's Art Centre exhibition space and send to friends or family.
Eucalyptus 2013 drawing activity
'Cai Guo Qiang: Falling Back to Earth' included the artist's major installation Eucalyptus 2013, which featured a magnificent native eucalypt.
Visitors of all ages were invited to think about the things that may have happened to the tree during its life and imagine possibilities for its future.
