About
Daphne Mayo (1895–1982) is one of Queensland's most significant twentieth century artists. Mayo was an outstanding sculptor and creator of some of Brisbane's grandest monuments, as well as a passionate advocate for the arts.
The exhibition, guest-curated by Dr Judith McKay, comprises over 50 works from public and private collections around Australia. The works range from portrait busts to architectural monuments; official commissions to creative, modernist experiments; and include ceramics, paintings and drawings, as well as sculptures. It is the first retrospective of this remarkable artist's work to be exhibited by a state gallery.
