Filmmaker Alena Lodkina explores the life and work of Aleksei German in this free talk. German is one of the most remarkable figures of Soviet cinema, with a career marked by both critical acclaim and fierce battles with state censors.
Alena Lodkina is a Russian-born filmmaker based in Melbourne. She made fiction and documentary short films that have played at festivals around the world. Her writing on film has appeared in 'Senses of Cinema', '4:3 Journal' and 'Fireflies'. Her debut feature film Strange Colours, produced through Venice Biennale College, premiered at Venice Film Festival 2017 and had a cinematic release in Australia.
