About
Experience the electrifying stage presence of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust in DA Pennebaker’s exhilarating concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars 1979.
Recorded live in front of 5000 fans, David Bowie’s final performance as the spikey haired alien rockstar was captured in all its dizzying glory in 1973 at London’s Hammersmith Odeon Theatre. In the film, the sedate and relaxed backstage preparations are contrasted by the dynamism of Bowie's Ziggy persona, as he soulfully delivers unforgettable renditions of ‘Changes’, 'Space Oddity' and 'Moonage Daydream'.
Wearing an array of jaw-dropping costumes designed in part by Japanese designer Kasai Yamamoto, Bowie commands the concert stage as Ziggy, amplified by the stellar performances of 'the Spiders' (featuring guitarist Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder, drummer Woody Woodmansey and saxophonist Ken Fordham).
