About
American neurosurgeon, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder), inherits the castle of his late grandfather: the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. Believing his grandfather’s work to be unquestionably delusional, Frederick discovers a book detailing the infamous re-animation experiment; forcing him to question his own beliefs and ultimately leading him to recreate the notorious experiment for himself. Intended as a satirical response to the saturated ‘Frankenstein’ film canon, Mel Brooks’ film proudly stands as a unique entry, infusing amusing gags and off-beat horror in this fantastical what-if scenario. Crafted to impersonate its Universal Pictures monster film predecessors, Brooks directs with a visual-style nodding to classical black and white horrors and B-grade gothic production design aesthetics. The ensemble cast act as the formidable cherry-on-top of this parodical creation, with comedic stars Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Kenneth Mars, Madeline Kahn, and Peter Boyle as the titular monster, supporting leading man Gene Wilder, who runs the show in this lauded Frankenstein spin-off.
