About
The first of the 'Yokai Monsters' spiritual trilogy, 100 Monsters (also known as 100 Spook Stories) is an eerie tale that showcases some of Japanese folklore's most iconic ghosts and creatures. After an avaricious landlord destroys a local shrine and drives a group of poor tenants out of their houses, he inadvertently summons a collection of malevolent spirits who seek to punish his misdeeds. A mixture of mischievous and evil-minded, these spirits take the forms of the memorably-tongued umbrella Kasa-obake, the long-necked Rokurokubi, the amphibious Kappa and many more. Darker than its sequels, 100 Monsters explores the ghostly horror of these supernatural creatures.
