About
In the bleak and icy Missouri Ozark woods, 17-year old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) discovers that her drug-dealing father has disappeared. When a local sheriff warns Ree that their home has been put up for bond, she begins the search for her deadbeat father, moving through an insidious rural community devastated by violence and drug addiction. In her retelling of Daniel Woodrell 'country noir' novel, director Debra Granik draws on the real-life Ozark and demonstrates enormous restraint. While Ree's story takes place in a world wrought with violence, the film isn't cruel. Granik worked closely with locals to ensure costumes, locations and the supporting cast were as genuine as possible and the storytelling.
