About
First presented at the Whitney Biennial in 2012, Wu Tsang’s inaugural feature length film explores both the limits and possibilities of intergenerational exchanges within a queer Los Angeles nightclub.
Filmed between 2008–2010, Wildness is set at The Silver Platter, an old-school gay bar in LA that became a known refuge for the Latinx trans community. Bleeding fact into fiction, Wildness follows Tsang and three friends who took over the bar’s less populated Tuesday night slot to start their own experimental club night. Told through interviews, performances, and the bar itself as a composite character that voices the values of the regulars, Wildness trails the tensions that arise between two differently classed groups of people. Through precarious conditions of class, race, economics and gender, the film represents the queer time of failure as a generative site.
