About
This screening will be introduced by Rosie Hays, Australian Cinémathèque.
A film steeped in tenderness and joy while tinged with a quiet melancholy, Faces Places is co-directed by iconic French New Wave filmmaker Agnès Varda. Varda, now in her eighties, teams up with street photographer JR to make a documentary of their journey across rural France. Their mission is to take photographs of the people they meet and instantly display the images writ large across buildings and public spaces reflecting their faces and stories back to the community. This elegantly simple premise brings forth stories of family, connections, tears of remembrance and cheeky playfulness foregrounding the warmth and generosity of humanity.
