Engaging and resourceful Abbas (Eriq Ebouaney) is father to two school-age children in Paris. The three have fled the Central African Republic’s civil war and hope to build a new life. Abbas, previously a language teacher and now lugging vegetable boxes in an open-air market, is plagued by night-time intrusions of his past. He has found new love with his employer, the practical yet sensual Carole (Sandrine Bonnaire). A humanistic film, A Season in France offers a fresh perspective on the story of seeking asylum, as director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun creates an understated shift in the portrayal of the refugee experience on screen.
