The Proposal 2018
In 1995, the professional archive of renowned Mexican architect Luis Barragán became the property of the furniture company Vitra, and was consigned to an underground bunker in Switzerland. Jill Magid's idiosyncratic portrait of Barragán tells the story of this purchase, while constrained throughout by its implications: not only is the archive physically inaccessible, but the intellectual property rights it conveys allow Vitra total control over how the architect's work is presented. Magid confronts these obstacles with guile and gumption, and in making the film's titular proposal—an audacious offer presented directly to the gatekeepers of Barragán's estate—lays bare the sickly compromise at the intersection of art and capital.

A History of the World According to Getty Images 2022
Richard Misek’s short film probes the limitations of access to our shared history. Using the Getty Image archive as its focal point, Misek explores the idea of locking humanity’s past behind licensing fees and rights restrictions, and comes to an inventive solution for liberating a small portion of it through his film.
