Based on a 1980 novella by Stephen King, The Mist follows David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son who become trapped in their local grocery store as a spectral mist descends outside. Quarantined with the town’s other residents, including the fiery-tempered solicitor Brent Norton (Andre Braugher) and deranged religious zealot Mrs Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), tempers begin to fray, and disquietude sets in. As the mist gradually uncovers its cargo of unspeakable horrors, it becomes clear that the townspeople have as much to fear from each other as the terrors dwelling outside.

A study in classical psychological horror filmmaking, The Mist blends sharp social commentary with Lovecraftian grotesqueries in this film by multiple Oscar-nominee and prolific King-adaptor Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption 1994, The Green Mile 1999).

This screening will be of the director’s preferred black & white version of the film.
