About
Gregg Araki’s death drive across America reflects a decade of queer resentment against the government for its response to the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Two HIV+ positive gay men–a drifter named Luke and Jon a film critic–team up for a crime-filled road trip across the United States. Filled with revenge and anarchy, Luke and Jon embody a sentiment felt by many queer men at the time: screw the world that screwed us. The Living End helps us consider what it means to live with no aspirations for a longer life. Like much of Araki’s oeuvre The Living End is jammed packed with amateurish acting and a DIY sensibility, this dark comedy honestly reflects a generation’s nihilistic attitude towards the future.
