About
Obitateli (The Inhabitants) 1970 All ages
A wordless montage film, The Inhabitants is made with a combination of shot and found footage. Images of mass movement, animal stampedes and migration allude to animals' relationship to humankind and our understanding of the animal world.
Tarva Yeghanaknere (The Seasons of the Year) 1975 All ages
One should not forget that this film's main "heroes" are not the people, but the seasons and nature. It is not man who imposes himself upon nature, but rather nature that imposes itself upon man. The film is about the interrelationship between man and nature. Artavazd Pelechian on The Seasons of the Year.
The Seasons of the Year is an exhilarating piece of cinema which expresses the grandeur of the natural world and focuses on the connection between animal, human and environment. We see clouds rolling across the sky, farmers sliding hay bales down impossibly steep slopes, and a daring white-water rescue of farmer and sheep from a gushing stream. Through his beautiful framing and rhythmic montages, Pelechian elevates these from simple scenes to articulations of humanity as understood through landscape.
