About
Thirty years after the catastrophic nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, a group of babushkas (grandmothers) have broken into the 'Exclusion Zone' in order to live and tend their farms. The babushkas shine with wry humour and warmth as one defiantly declares: "Radiation doesn't scare me, starvation does." An engaging documentary, The Babushkas of Chernobyl reveals how the desire for self-determination and connection to homeland runs deeper than the fear of death.
