About
Testament is a deeply affecting portrait of a family attempting to return to normality after their town ends up on the periphery of a nuclear attack. As major cities across the United States are subjected to mysterious nuclear bombings, the small fictional Californian municipality of Hamlin survives largely unscathed. However, hidden residual effects slowly begin to emerge throughout the community.
Despite originally being shot for television, director Lynne Littman has crafted a work whose cinematic intimacy reveals itself powerfully on the big screen. She refuses to engage in cheap sentimentality, instead offering a melancholy view of familial and community struggle in the aftermath of a disaster. Jane Alexander gives a commanding performance in the leading role of the family matriarch, for which she received an Academy Award nomination.
