About
The young, withdrawn Yuzo has been sharing his apartment with high school student Mitsuki when he is contacted by aspiring filmmaker Satsuki, who is making a documentary about the death of her sister. After reluctantly agreeing to be interviewed, their conversation soon traverses the realm between the living and the dead, and the spaces they share.
Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi — the recent recipient of the Silver Bear Award at the 2021 Berlinale for Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy and the Best Screenplay Award at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival for Drive My Car — wrote and directed this beguiling ghost story, shot during the production of his five-hour opus Happy Hour 2015. It is an entrancing exploration of grief and memory, captured in Hamaguchi's characteristically droll style.
