About
James Benning’s Ten Skies is a film both simple and vast in its construction. It is comprised of ten shots of ten skies, each lasting for ten minutes and each shot on 16mm around Benning’s adopted home of Val Verde, California. Both formally minimalistic and rigorously composed, the film is a hypnotic natural portrait – observing with meditative patience the ephemerality of clouds, the varying textures of light, and the intrusions of humanity on the world above us.
