She turned out to be an absolutely fantastic actress: ready, no tension at all, and intelligent and observant and obedient — perfect to work with. Anil Chatterjee, who played the postmaster, was constantly worried that no one would look at his performance with her there on the screen.

Please note: The three short films that form the feature film Teen Kanya (Three Daughters) are screened here as they were released internationally and reflect how they were restored. Teen Kanya (Two Daughters) was the initial international release and has been restored by the Academy as one film. It is comprised of The Postmaster and The Conclusion. The Lost Jewels is restored as a separate film and will screen directly after.

Three Daughters is a trilogy of short films made as a tribute to a highly influential figure in Satyajit Ray's life and work – the Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore – in the centenary of his birth in 1961. Based on three short stories by Tagore, Three Daughters consists of: The Postmaster, Monihara (The Lost Jewels) and Samapti (The Conclusion).

In The Postmaster, the titular character teaches his servant girl, Ratan, to read and write, not realising the significant impact this will have on her life. The Conclusion is a comedy that concerns itself with the trials and humour of marriage.
