About
Still under a strict government ban to not make films, acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi subverts this mandate by becoming, for the short term, a taxi driver who happens to be filming in the car. A string of diverse customers enter the taxi, talking about their day with its highs and lows to the driver who lends a sympathetic ear. A work of docufiction, the people who enter the car play versions of themselves some stories real and others imagined. With each exchange Panahi paints a candid portrait of Iranian society and a celebration of community touching on a wide variety of topics from politics and views on capital punishment to sharing a love of film and discussing daily life. Winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
