About
Breaking with filmmaking conventions, the hyper-saturated Tangerine is shot entirely on an iPhone with every frame led by two transwomen protagonists whose hilarious and tense friendship drives this unique film.
Best friends and fellow sex-workers Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) and Alexandra (Mya Taylor) charge through the warm glow of the Los Angeles streets. Only one day out of prison Sin-Dee learns that her boyfriend and pimp Chester has been cheating on her while she was away and chaos ensues. Effortlessly blending heartfelt moments with hilarious confrontations and real-world conversations, Tangerine is an electrifying journey centred on trans characters who command every scene. Playing out on Christmas Eve, the sheer pace of the film is at odds with the archetypal family time of the festive season. Tangerine doesn’t wallow in difference, instead relaying a indifferent detachment from convention.
