About
Alena Lodkina’s Strange Colours is a compelling, contemplative drama set amidst the opal mines of Lightning Ridge. The film follows Milena, who undertakes the long journey to the town to visit her ailing father. As this complex and fragile reunion transpires, Milena finds herself drawn into the isolated world of the men who live in the remote community. Funded and developed through the Venice Film Festival Biennale College, the film is infused with an enthralling sense of melancholy and singular sense of place, starkly captured by cinematographer Michael Latham.
