A documentary about memory and family secrets by director Sarah Polley examines Polley’s burning question of whether her father Michael is her biological father and her desire to know more about her charismatic, larger than life mother. Combing flashback, home video and present day interviews with her family, Sarah Polley attempts to find the truth about her mother who died when she was 11 years old. The film focuses on the subjective nature of family ‘truths’ and how stories about life, even your own life, don’t belong to anyone, they evolve and are created in the people who live them.
