About
The renowned Talking Heads concert film by Jonathan Demme, considered one of the best concert films of all time, is given a 4K restoration makeover. This ground-breaking music documentary, filmed across three nights, features charged renditions of ‘Psycho Killer’, ‘Take Me to the River’ and ‘Burning Down the House’. Starting with the gawky and enigmatic David Byrne alone on stage with a guitar, the performance gradually adds in each musician from the band: drums, keyboard, bass guitar, back-up singers and more. With each addition to the stage, the dynamics of their collaboration and the elation of making music together swells and builds to a triumphant crescendo with musicians beaming at one-another adding to the palpable sense that magic is being created. The film unfolds with a gentle humour from Byrne’s oversized business suit to his lamp dance adding to the tone of intimacy and shared absurdity of this well-crafted performance which could be read as a story of a lone musician finding his place in the world. Jonathan Demme’s delicate placement of cameras make the viewer feel as if they’re on stage, capturing the joyful exchange of looks between performers who can’t stop dancing and can’t stop smiling.
