About
Still Life is a moving tale of development and displacement in contemporary China from one of the masters of contemporary Chinese cinema, Jia Zhangke.
Winner of the Golden Lion at the 2006 Venice Film Festival, Still Life brings together fiction and documentary filmmaking to highlight the changes brought to the town of Fengjie following the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. Focusing on the parallel stories of two individuals — coal-miner Han Sanming and nurse Shen Hong — both of whom are searching for family, the film brings attention to the human cost of rapid development and urbanisation.
Still Life will screen from a 35mm print.
