About
In the distant future, on a sun-blasted desert plain in the Australian outback, the solitary lives of siblings Felix (Michael Lake) and Betty Crabtree (Rhys Davis) are interrupted by the arrival of mysterious fugitive by the name of “Smith” (Norman Boyd), who is on the run from a trio of menacing pursuers. With a wall of mountains blocking the journey north, Felix, who has a long-held dream of flight, suggests a solution: a “flying machine” that could take Smith beyond the mountains. But Betty, a religious zealot who is convinced that Smith is a demon, has other ideas.
Featuring inventive production design and Spaghetti Western-inspired cinematography that vividly capture the arid plains of Broken Hill, the debut feature of Alex Proyas (The Crow 1994, Dark City 1998) is a sparkling oddity of Australian independent cinema that would establish the filmmaker’s unique brand of aesthetic creativity.
