About
Directed by Sophia Turkiewicz and co-written by Thomas Keneally, this stunning period drama has been described by David Stratton as one of the best Australian films of the 1980s. The ‘Silver City’ of the title is a large hostel housing thousands of Polish migrants in the aftermath of the Second World War. As they wait and work in the encampment, Julian (Ivar Kants) and Nina (Gosia Dobrowolksa) begin a passionate affair against a backdrop of change and challenge for the newly arrived migrants.
