The second session of ‘New Voices: Short Films from New Caledonia 2023’ includes the films ‘Illusions’ and ‘My Childhood Bruises. The session will be introduced by Joe Hardwick, acting president of Alliance Française de Brisbane and lecturer in French at University of Queensland.

Please note this session is recommended for audiences Ages 15+, as the films contain scenes of violence and coarse language.

Illusions 2023

On an abandoned island, a mother raises alone her daughter Gaïa, a frustrated and enigmatic teenager. Gaïa is unaware of what lies beyond the island, and is deeply bored until the day a strange boy appears. The little paradise in which they live will quickly become hell.
