About
A delicately tender and poetic exploration of deep sibling bonds and the possibility of separation, The Seen and Unseen is director Kamila Andini’s otherworldly masterpiece rooted in dance, costume and the natural world.
The elder of twins, Tantri is grappling with the new reality that her brother Tantra’s health is worsening. Seeking solace by retreating into dreams her day and night, imagination and reality blend together. By day, Tantri spends time with bedridden Tantra. When night descends, the twins share moments of grace through dance, song and play, a moonlit landscape as their playground.
Throughout the film, Writer/Director Andini incorporates the concept of Sekala Niskala (the seen and unseen) a Balinese philosophy of dualism and balance with an interplay between the spiritual and the physical, realism and surrealism. Voyaging through states of reverie and fantasy, The Seen and Unseen offers a mesmeric portrait of love, strength and connection.
