About
I am more interested in real landscapes that transform into something magical, natural. It's not for the sake of realism that I go to these landscapes. I create something that only occurs in fever dreams and only occurs in our sense of magic. - Werner Herzog
Werner Herzog's Salt and Fire continues his ongoing fascination with the prospect of humanity facing up to a monumental environmental catastrophe. The film finds two UN ecologists (Gael Garcia Bernal and Veronica Ferres) desperately trying to determine whether salt flats left by the artificial evaporation of a lake will continue their disastrous and seemingly endless expansion. Michael Shannon plays a corporate CEO who arranges for the investigators to be kidnapped, but whose sinister motivations are soon overshadowed by a far more apocalyptic threat.
