About
'Released in Japan in 1979, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro features Monkey Punch's popular manga character, Arsène Lupin III. But this anime is best known as Hayao Miyazaki's feature debut. Miyazaki knew Lupin III well because he had previously co-directed more than a dozen TV episodes featuring the character, a master thief. The film begins with Lupin III's discovery that his successful robbery in Monaco netted only counterfeit bills. Searching for the source of those bills, Lupin III ends up in a small country named Cagliostro, where he encounters a princess and an unsavoury count. Miyazaki went on to direct ten more feature-length films and cemented himself as a titan of world cinema. It all started here.' Asian Film Festival of Dallas
