About
Quentin Tarantino made an audacious directorial debut with this fast-talking heist film inspired by Stanley Kubrick's The Killing 1956. The story centres on a botched diamond robbery that leaves a group of criminals running for cover. Three have retreated to a safe house: Mr Orange (Tim Roth) has been wounded, Mr White (Harvey Keitel) is trying to get him help, while Mr Pink (Steve Buscemi) is furious and suspects the bungled operation was a setup. So begins a bloody process of elimination, as the group try to determine if there's a sneak amongst them. Tarantino's screenplay and use of popular songs established his now signature style of horrifying violence and offbeat humour, with his gangsters ruminating on past crimes, debating the subjects of Madonna and tipping, and carrying out violent retribution to songs such as Stealers Wheel's 'Stuck in the Middle With You'.
