About
A fiery, ferocious account of the physical, emotional and sexual vagaries of menopause, Privilege is vividly autobiographical and bitingly funny. Rainer's film jumps between documentary and narrative fiction in boisterous fashion, observing Black filmmaker Yvonne Washington — acting as a stand-in for the director herself — interviewing her friend Jenny about her changing body, before jumping back-and-forth to the social turmoil of late-1960s New York. As their conversations develop, Rainer provocatively needles at the limitations of 'White feminism' in a way that is deeply honest and brutally self-aware. A playful and prickly headfirst dive into sexism, racism and class divides in contemporary America and beyond.
Please note: this film contains discussions of sexual violence.
