About
This enchanting romance finds Eben Adams, a struggling artist played by Joseph Cotten, beguiled by the young Jennie (Jennifer Jones). Despite running into her repeatedly over a series of weeks, each time she seems to have aged years, with fresh memories of events that occurred long ago. As this mystery begins to reveal itself, Eben comes to understand that their fates are intertwined in deep and unexpected ways. The sumptuously shot Portrait of Jennie is a classic metaphysical love story infused with a bewitching melancholy and elevated by two captivating lead performances, in a cast that also includes Ethel Barrymore and Lilian Gish.
