Past Present is a rare documentary study of Tsai Ming-liang. Filmmaker-academic Saw Tiong Guan travels with Tsai to his hometown of Kuching in Malaysia, where Tsai visits the sites of his childhood cinemas while offering intimate insights into his life, career and artistic philosophy. The documentary includes interviews with illustrious contemporaries of the director, including Hou Hsiao-hsien, Ang Lee and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who discuss his legacy and impact on cinema.
