About
This celebrated documentary explores the late 1980s ball culture within the LGBTIQ African American and Latino community of New York city. The balls were the birthplace of the Vogue dance style and a catwalk-inspired competition where contestants were judged on costume, make-up and deportment — their ability to ‘walk’ the floor. Ball culture attracted people on society’s fringes, giving them the opportunity to become someone else — college girl, supermodel and the most prized of all: filthy rich. God help you girl if you wear polyester.
