About
A gentle comedy, Fire follows the good-natured Tolik (Tolepbergen Baissakalov) a bread delivery-man who lives with his pregnant wife Altynai, two teenage daughters and grumbling father. Everything costs money - weddings, funerals and the price of food just seems to keep climbing. Tolik tries his best to make ends meet, and face life’s struggles with good humour. He can at least still have a drink with his good friend Baur. Fire is a warm-hearted look at the challenges of contemporary Kazakh society and the family and friends who make it all worth it. The film features a predominantly female crew and is the debut feature by director Aizhan Kassymbek who is one of very few women working behind the camera in the region. Fire debuted at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival 2021 and won Best Actor for Tolepbergen Baissakalov‘s performance at the Asian World Film Festival 2021 in Los Angeles.
