About
Seven years after his wife Ellen (Irene Dunn) disappeared at sea, Nick Ardern (Cary Grant) finally has her declared legally dead so that he can marry his new partner Bianca (Gail Patrick). Just as he leaves for his honeymoon, Ellen returns and reveals she has been shipwrecked on a desert island with the handsome Stephen (Randolph Scott). Nick must figure out how to break the news to Bianca and how he is going to extricate himself from this tangled situation. Reuniting Grant and Dunn after 1937’s iconic The Awful Truth, Garson Kanin’s film is an exuberant, gleefully convoluted treat that showcases both the superior comic timing of its leads and the flawless diving technique of co-star Randolph Scott.
