About
Schemers abound in this Cinderella-inspired screwball classic! Claudette Colbert’s American showgirl Eve Peabody arrives in Paris empty-pocketed, unemployed and desperate for work. She convinces kindly taxi driver Tibor Czerny (Don Ameche) to drive her from nightclub to nightclub searching for a job. Events spiral out of hand, however, when she impulsively poses as Hungarian royalty and gets swept into Parisian high society. Adapting a script by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett, Mitchell Leisen brings a deft touch to this story that is both sweet-hearted in its romance and jagged in its class satire. With a cast that also includes Mary Astor and John Barrymore, Midnight is a boisterous caper that finds swindlers around every corner.
Midnight will screen from an imported 35mm print.
