In this gentle celebration of cultural traditions and the power of music to heal, Melody, a musician who works with children who have cancer, is tasked with a wish from one of her students. Her young charge asks the composer to write a song featuring the calls of 30 different birds and finish in time for the much-anticipated children’s feast. Melody visits her old friend Mango who shares his expert knowledge of local wildlife, and their quest finds the two crouching in moss-covered, sun-dappled glades recording the rare birdcalls that echo throughout the forest. An Iran–Tajikistan co-production, Melody is written and directed by Iranian director Behrouz Sebt Rasoul and is a rare offering from the slowly growing film industry in Takijistan. A film for children and adults alike, Melody is a joyous honouring of Tajik culture, landscape and above all the life-giving aspect of music.
