About
Mekong 2030 is an anthology film consisting of five short films that envision the future of the Mekong River from an array of cultural perspectives. Produced by the Luang Prabang Film Festival, each of the films is set in the year 2030 to speculate possible futures across the region.
The first film, Soul River, takes place following the events of a catastrophic flood, serving as a cautionary tale of environmental degradation. Alternatively, The Che Brother boldly imagines a future where certain blood types have become valuable commodities in the wake of a global health crisis, whilst the third film, The Forgotten Voices of the Mekong, is a meditative reflection of the relationships that exist between community and faith. Set in a contemporary art space, The Line considers new perspectives towards river ecology and animism whereas The Unseen River revolves around two contrasting narratives that address different experiences of loss: a loss of love, and a chronic loss of sleep.
