Heinz Riegler

Heinz Riegler is a musician focusing on experimental composition and improvisation using a variety of tools including the guitar, electronics and purpose-built sound devices for performances.

A frequent performer of live scores in cinema settings, Riegler is interested in amplifying and supporting the moving image creating ambient as well as dynamic performances. Born in Vienna, 1969 he is a musician, artist and curator based in North Maleny, Queensland. Riegler works across sound art, installation and performance, with an interdisciplinary focus. Since 1989, Riegler has been releasing musical works with a variety of imprints such as Room40, Warner Records, Kool Arrow Records and others - and has performed in Great Britain, Australia, USA, Europe and Japan. In curatorial capacity Riegler is the co-founder and was Artistic Director of the minus20degree Winter Biennale in Flachau, Austria from 2012-2018. Riegler is an ARIA Award winner and was twice nominated for the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship.
